HERODOTUS
HERODOTUS (ca. 484 BC — ca. 425 BC), Ancient Greek Historian. Undertook a journey through Asia Minor, North East Africa and the South East Europe in the 50–40s of the 5th century BC. He was the author of the literary work titled History describing the Greek Persian wars which took place in the 500—449 BC and which was divided into 9 volumes. In Volume 4 (Melpomene) dedicated to the description of the campaign of King Darius I into the country of the Scythians, he gave the first systematic description of life of the inhabitants of the Riphean (Ural) Mountains territory who were called the Argks, the Arimspans, the Yirks, the Issedons, the Sauromates, the Tissagets, etc.
